Hallington Angus bulls in demand in Carlisle 

This month’s trip to Carlisle for the Aberdeen-Angus show and sale proved fruitful as our pen of bulls topped at 6000gns for the Hallington Evo L333 son, Hallington Excalibury N401.

This April 2013-born first prize winner is out of the Peter Pershore E052 daughter Hallington Ebolass L312 and carries a milk figure of +23, along with a TSI of +49 and SRI of +66. He found a new home with G W Green and Sons, Wooler, Northumberland.

Next best for us was the third place Hallington Jubilant Eric N420. This one is by the home bred Hallington Jenson eric L307, himself a Peter Pershore son and is out of the Hallington Knight F123 daughter Hallington Jubilee Erica K252. He was knocked down to Co Down, Northern Ireland-based breeder Sean Farrell.

The second placed Hallington Piper N396 then sold for 4000gns to G N Bain, Barnard Castle. By peter Pershore, he’s out of the Hallington Knight F123 daughter Hallington Princess K259. He sold with a TSI of +40, SRI of +50 and milk figure of +18.

Then wrapping up proceedings for us at 3300gns was the second place junior bull Hallington Lord Harvey N427. Again by Jenson Eric, he’s out of Hallington Lady Heather J242, a Hallington Knight F123 daughter who goes back to the Blelack Lady Heather line. Buying this one was commercial producer Geoff Roddam and Partners, Hexham.

Alsnow Isla takes female championship and sells for 8000gns in Carlisle 

Our recent trip to Carlisle for the May Charolais sale reaped rewards as we took the female and reserve female championship and then went on to sell for 8200gns and 5000gns, respectively.

Our champion and sale leader was the April 2013-born Alsnow Isla, a Goldies Eddy daughter out of the Burradon Talisman daughter Alsnow Blissful, a family that has already produced the 12,000gns Alsnow Euro. With a TSI of +41 and a SRI of +44, she sold to Charlie Boden of Boden and Davies for the Sportsmans herd.

Then at 5000gns was Alsnow Honour, a Blelack Digger daughter out of Alsnow Duchess, a Balmily Vagabond daughter. She sold with a heifer calf at foot by the homebred Alsnow Hurricane to J J and M C Baxter, Carlisle.

Our reserve champion female, Alsnow Imaculate, then sold for 3600gns  to D T and M Stobart. This June 2013-born heifer is by Puntabrava Federico and is out of the Blelack Roger daughter, Alsnow Emmy.

Alsnow Imperial sells in Stirling for 12,000gns 

Leading the way for us in Stirling this month in our Charolais team was Alsnow Imperial, a Puntabrava Federico son out of the Balmyle Vagabond daughter Alsnow Duchess. Having stood fourth in his class and carrying a TSI of +39 and SRI of +45 he sold for 12,000gns to R B Millar, Tealing, Dundee.

Next up for us was Alsnow Invincible. This Goldies Eddy son is out of Alsnow Velvet, a Mowbraypark Orlando daughter and sold for 4000gns to R and L Howat, Dairsie, Cupar. We’d like to wish both buyers the best with their purchases.

Hallington Jack Eric N389 sells for 11,000gns in Stirling

We had another great tip to Stirling this month where we sold Hallington Jack Eric N389 for 11,000gns. This third placed bull is by Hallington Evo L333, h’s out of Hallington Jubilee Erica L322, herself a Blelack Prince Consort A286 daughter out of one of the foundation females in the herd, Blelack Jubilee Erica D899.

Jack Eric has been shown successfully prior to Stirling when he took the reserve male championship at Northumberland County Show. He also carries a TSI of +36 and SRI of +47 and sold to Northern Irish breeders Jonathan and Lisa Doyle.

Hallington success in Border Angus Herds Competition

The Hallington herd were pleased to pick up two seconds in the recent Border Angus Club Herd Competition. Judged by Ian Campbell, Thrunton we were second in the 2014 born bull calf class and the group of three cows with 2014 born calves.

Our bull calf was Hallington Lord Hanson P433, he is by Hallington Jenson Eric L307 and out of Blelack Lady Heather G803, a Nightingale Ernie B133 daughter.

We headed north to the Royal Highland Show with our April 2013-born Angus heifer Hallington Eblolass N399. She stood fourth in a very strong junior heifer class behind the junior champion.

Sired by Blelack Prince Consort A286 she is out of the Nightingale Defiance E264 daughter Hallington Ebolass K261 who is a maternal sister to the 17,000gns Hallington Edition M362.

Charolais breed champion at Cumberland Show

Our Charolais show team had a successful Cumberland Show with the senior bull Alsnow Hurricane, taking the male championship and then overall breed champion. This November 2012-born Alsnow Eddie son is out of the Derryharney Outstanding daughter Alsnow Active.

We also stood second in the junior bull class with Alsnow Ideal. Born May 2013 he is by Puntabrava Federico and is out of Alsnow Enchantress, a Blelack Roger daughter. He has a direct calving ease of +6.1, +12 for milk with a TI and SRI of +50.

Good day at Northumberland County Show

Our show team of Charolais and Aberdeen-Angus had a good day at Northumberland County picking up three firsts and a second as well as male champion.

Leading the way for the team was our senior Charolais bull Alsnow Hurricane, he stood first in the any other continental breed senior bull class before going on to be male champion. Born November 2012 he is by Alsnow Eddie and out of the Derryharney Outstanding daughter Alsnow Active.

Standing reserve to him having won the junior bull class was the May 2013-born Alsnow Ideal. This Puntabrava Federico son is out of Alsnow Enchantress, a Blelack Roger daughter. He has a direct calving ease of +6.1, +12 for milk with a TI and SRI of +50.

In the Aberdeen-Angus section Hallington Ebolass N399 stood first in the heifer class and reserve female champion. Born April 2013 she is by Blelack Prince Consort A286 and out of the Nightingale Defiance E264 sired Hallington Ebolass K261 who is a maternal sister to the 17,000gns Hallington Edition M362.

Hallington Jack Eric N398 stood second in the junior bull class and then reserve male champion. He is by the Netherallan Peter Pershore E052 son Hallington Evo L333 and out of Hallington Jubilee Erica L322, a Blelack Prince Consort A286 daughter. He has a TI of +37, SRI of +48 and +21 for milk.

6000gns for Hallington Powerline M359 at Carlisle

We were back at Carlisle at the weekend for the Aberdeen-Angus Sale and had another successful day.

Hallington Powerline M359 stood third in the pre-sale show and went on to sell for the second top price for bulls at 6000gns. He is an April 2012-born Hallington Jay Eric K265 son out of Blelack Princess C779, a Blelack Blacksmith Y291 daughter. He sold to Schivas Estates, Ythanbank, Ellon.

Our other bull Hallington Lord Handsome M383 then sold for 3700gns. Born September 2012 he is by Netherallan Peter Pershore E052 and out of the Hallington Knight F123 daughter Hallington Lady Heather J242. He carries a milk figure of +19 with +5.6 for eye muscle depth, a TSI of +43 and SRI of +55. He was purchased by Messrs Haston, Dearham, Maryport.

Alsnow Hublot sells in Carlisle for 11,500gns

The Alsnow Charolais team celebrated a good Carlisle sale this month selling Alsnow Hublot for 11,500gns.Having stood first prize in his class, this one is by Goldies Unbeatable and is out of Givendale Thea, a Givendale Operator daughter. We’d like to wish Backmuir Trading all the best with him, who purchased Hublot for their herd based in Keith, Banffshire.

February 2014: Hallington Angus bulls in hot demand in Stirling to average 10,000gns

This month’s Stirling Bull Sales was a fantastic sale for the Hallington Angus herd. Kicking off proceedings for us by securing a first prize in his class before going on to scoop the reserve intermediate championship was Hallington Edition M362. This Nightingale Proud Jake G405 son is out of Blelack Ebolass C661, a Wedderlie Blackadder Z093 daughter and carries a TSI of +37, Sri of +53, milk figure of +12 and a positive calving ease. He went on to sell for the joint second highest price of the day of 17,000gns to Andrew Hodge for his Rulesmains herd, Duns, Berwickshire.

Our next best was Hallington Justice Eric M378, another Proud Jake son, this time out of the Blelack Klansman C702 daughter Hallington Jayne Erica E090, a daughter of an early foundation female Blelack Jayne Erica C773. She previously bred the 8000gns Carlisle May champion in 2013. He carries a TSI of +31, milk figure of +17 and a SRI of +42 and found a new home with the Harcus family, Orkney.

Our last bull to sell was Hallington Panasonic M373, a son of the home bred sire Hallington Jay Eric K265 out of the Hallington Knight F123 daughter Hallington Princess H182. With a SRI of +40 he was knocked down to Liam Muir, Orkney at 3000gns.

January 2014: First female sold from our Angus herd

We are delighted to announce the sale of the first female from our Hallington Angus herd.

We have sold our eight month old heifer Hallington Wistaria N395. Sired by Nightingale Proud Jake G405 she is out of the Hallington Knight F123 daughter Hallington Wistaria H188, who is a maternal sister to the 10,000gns Hallington Walter F118.

She was purchased by Stephen and Sarah Medley for their Saville herd, having seen the heifer at six months old Stephen said “we were stunned at the size and power but also the femininity of her dam and maternal sister. We feel Wistaria will be a great asset within out herd and are excited for the future with her.”

She has a terminal index of +34, self replacing index of +43 and a milk figure of +14.

It was a solid day’s trade for our one Angus entry and one Charolais entry in Stirling this month, with the best coming from our Angus pen in the form of the March 2012-born Hallington Lord Tim M358. By Nightingale Proud Jake G405, this one is out of the Hallington Knight F123 daughter Hallington Lady J250, who calved at two years old.

Carrying a milk figure of +16, a TSI of +39 and a SRI of +48, he was sold for 6500gns having stood second in his class to F T Walton, Morpeth and M J Dixon, Newcastle.

Our Charolais bull, Alsnow Hussle, found a new home selling at 4500gns to Terry Coghill, Orkney. This March-born Alsnow Eddie son is out of the Blelack Percy daughter Alsnow Abigail who has bred sons to 12,000gns. He has a positive calving ease of +5.7, TSI of +41 and a SRI of +49.

September 2013: Proud Jake son sells privately to Blelack herd

We’re pleased to announce the private sale of Hallington Principal M367 for an undisclosed five figure sum to Neil and Graeme Massie, Dinnet, Aberdeenshire, for their noted Blelack herd.

Principal is by Nightingale Proud Jake G405 and out of Hallington Princess F116, a Blelack Prince Consort A286 daughter. He is from the same family as Hallington Picasso M348, sold privately recently to the Haughton herd of Whittaker and Co Farms.

He also carries strong figures with a Terminal Index of +34, a Self Replacing Index of +47, a milk figure of +18 and eye muscle depth of +4.5. Principal is a big, powerful bull and has been admired by many visitors to our herd this year. We’re delighted he’s joining the Blelack herd and we’d like to wish Neil and Graeme the very best with him.

New owner Graeme Massie added: “I saw Principal as a young calf and was impressed by him. I was still impressed when I saw him as a young bull. He comes from the Princess family which has bred very well at Blelack and has also bred well for the Hallington herd.”

September 2013: Second placings in the Border Club Herd’s Competition

This year’s Border Aberdeen-Angus Club herd’s competition saw the Hallington Angus herd take a second in the stock bull section with the home bred Hallington Jenson Eric L307, an April 2011-born Netherallan Peter Pershore E052 son out of the Nightingale Ernie B133 daughter Blelack Jubilee Erica G739.

We also took a second in the cow and calf section and second in the best heifer calf section with Hallington Wistaria N408, a May-born calf by Jenson Eric out of a Peter Pershore daughter.

August 2013: Half share in Hallington Picasso sells to Haughton herd

A half share in the January 2012-born Hallington Picasso M348 has been sold in a private five figure deal to Whittaker and Co Farms, Cornhill-on-Tweed, Northumberland, for use in their Haughton herd.

Picasso has been shown successfully this summer, culminating in a reserve male championship at Northumberland Show, the reserve native championship at Cumberland Show and a third place at the Royal Highland Show.

He is by the proven sire Netherallan Peter Pershore E052 and is out of the Hallington Knight F123 daughter Hallington Princess J218, one of the best breeding lines in the herd.

As well as his exceptional pedigree, Picasso carries a strong set of performance data, including a Terminal Index of +47, a Self Replacing Index of +60 and a milk figure of +21.

Commenting on the new herd sire Fraser Cormack said: “When we first saw Picasso early this year we saw all the traits and characteristics that we value so highly. Then when we later viewed him on farm and studied his performance figures we knew he was the bull to take us to the next level.  With the females that we have assembled or bred ourselves we knew he was the bull for us at Haughton Angus.”

July 2013: Pershore sons sells off farm at £6000

This month has seen the private sale of yet another Angus bull by Netherallan Peter Pershore E052 off one of our strongest family lines sell off the farm for £6000. This one found a new home with regular local customer, Selby North-Lewis of Colwell.

Leading trade at the official Angus Society sale in Carlisle this month was our senior and overall champion Hallington Julius Eric L314. By Netherallan Peter Pershore E052, this April 2011-born bull is out of the Blelack Klansman C702 daughter Hallington Jayne Erica E090, herself a daughter of Blelack Jayne Erica C773.

This one carries a milk figure of +21, a TSI of +40 and a SRI of +55 and was knocked down at 8000gns to Schivas Estates, Ellon, Aberdeenshire.

Then at 5800gns was Hallington Prelude M346. Yet another Peter Pershore son, this one is out of a homebred Hallington Knight F123 daughter and has a milk figure of +21, a TSI of +46 and a SRI of +59. He sold to Messrs D E W Kibble and Son, Herriot, Midlothian.

We’d like to wish both buyers the very best with their new bulls and look forward to hearing how they perform in the herds.

May 2013: Alsnow Hank sells privately at £6000

It’s been a good month for selling bulls off the farm and the highlight for us has been the sale of the £6000 Charolais bull Alsnow Hank. By Alsnow Eddie, he is out of the Blelack Rodger daughter Alsnow Diamond who is out of the Dingle Hofmeister daughter Blelack Panama. He sold to a regular customer Messrs Oxley.

We have also sold an Aberdeen-Angus bull to Robbie Dick’s Hardlawbank herd, Hallington Elevation M364. This April 2012-born Netherallan Peter Pershore E052 son is out of Hallington Ebolass K261, a Nightingale defiance E264 daughter. He carries a TI of +51 and a SRI of +70.

February 2013: Alsnow Genereux sells for 11,000gns

Stirling was a good sale this month for our Charolais herd with our offering topping at 11,000gns for Alsnow Genereux .

Sired by the homebred bull Alsnow Eddie he is out of Givendale Thea, a Givendale Operator daughter. He has a TSI of +51 and an SRI of +49 and sold to L Forster and Son, West Nubbock, Hexham.

Also selling for 4000gns was Alsnow Glenfiddich, a son of Alsnow Eddie out of the Gwenog Banjo daughter Alsnow Eclipse who goes back to Alsnow Velvet. He sold to a Dumfriess-based herd.

The week before in the Aberdeen-Angus offering we sold the Netherallan Peter Pershore E052 son, Hallington Peter L317 for 5000gns. This one is out of the Blelack Prince Consort A286 daughter Hallington Princess F116 and carries a SRI of +64 and a milk figure of +21. He found a new home with Messrs Robertson, Aberdeenshire. We also sold another Angus bull at 3800gns to Messrs Dining.

November 2012: Alsnow General sells for 5000gns in Carlisle

Our best at the Charolais sale in Carlisle this month was Alsnow General, a second place Corrie Alan son out of the Blelack Percy daughter Alsnow Abigail. With a SRI of +37 and a positive calving value, he sold to T H Vickers and Sons, Co Durham.
